Welcome to Mauritius!!

Sun...Sand...Beaches...Tea Estates...Giant Tortoise...Sub Marine...lots to do in Mauritius. Unlike any typical island destination, Mauritius has much more than beaches for its visitors to enjoy.

We checked in a beach bungalow at Shanti Maurice resort for our 3 days stay at Mauritius. We were chauffeur driven from the airport to the resort and the warm hospitality of the island was felt right from the beginning.

Day 1 was to enjoy the resort, beach, food and drinks.

On Day 2, we visited Saint Aubin brewery and tasted the local rum, a colonial palace, tea estates, sugar cane farms. It was interesting to watch the brewing process and the big barrels used for preparation and storage.

We did a picture stop at a beautiful view point on the way

We had a fantastic time with the Giant Tortoise at the farm and was a particularly interesting experience. We fed the giants and was so cute to see them move around. A lot of babies were bred at the farm and the motto was definitely to save the endangered species.

Several varieties of butterflies were displayed in the park, and the highlight was the stuffed models of Mauritian Dodo bird, which is extinct.

Later, we visited the Hindu Temples. Mauritius has a good number of Indian decedents and follow the Hindu traditions and customs. They look Indian, names are also Indian, but speak French :)

Next was the Seven Colored Earth at Chamerel. This place is unique as the sand has seven different colors and its easy to identify and distinguish the colors.

A lot of tea estates, sugar cane farms on the way

On the last day of our trip, we drove to Port Louis, the Capital City for an underwater adventure in a sub marine. It was awesome, as we sank down in the sub marine to the sea bed and encountered colorful species of fish, old ship wrecks and bigger fish on the expedition.
