Stopover In Sweden

Visited In July 2019

Välkommen till Sverige!!

A visit to Scandinavia was in mind from long...Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland... however, we were pretty clear, we cannot do justice to the trip if we were to do all these in one go. So we chose Norway and Sweden. Finland to be at a later time to visit the white forests, Lapland and the Santa and Iceland for its unique topography, thermal springs and waterfalls.

We had only spent 2 days in Stockholm on our way to Norway. Our itinerary was

1) Stockholm City

2) Skansen

Stockholm is a well built, clean and beautiful city and commutation is very easy by the well connected metro and tram lines. We used metro and tram for our commutation.

Unlike many other cities in Europe, English is well spoken and understood by the Swedes, hence there wasn't much of a language issue.

We took an evening ride to Gamla Stan, the old neighbourhood with palaces, creek and museums. The lovely summer evening was long and sunny till late night.

Look its 9 pm!!! Still so bright like mid day :)

Gamla Stan is very lively with visitors and several cafes all around. The famous Nobel Museum, National Museum, Maritime Museum, Royal Palace, Cathedrals... can be seen from here. We can also take a cruise to view the city highlights in a boat.

The next day was to Skansen - A very vast open air museum and zoo in Stockholm. It is easy to reach the place using metro and tram service from the city centre.

Skansen Entrance

The zoo hosts several Scandinavian animals like bison, bear, reindeer, moose etc and also has a collection of historic structures like the wooden houses etc. We enjoyed the place and spent more than 3 hours roaming around and having lunch. See below the vintage Volvo displayed in its home country.

Then, we took our baggage from the luggage locker in the Stockholm Railway Station and headed to the airport for our onward trip to Norway
